the day before lucy's birthday we had a small party for her at my parents' house and then took the kids to the fall festival at their church. here are a few shots from the day. this is what i like to refer to as the "tai chi" shot...

it has been a while

things are going well here in the johnston house. i am home with the kids now. we have lots of fun and are learning lots of new things (yes, me too!). since it has been a few, ok, several months since i posted some new pics, here ya go...

for those of you who do not know, larkin has decided that he is going to be a race car driver. now, i know he is only four, but he seems pretty set on the idea. i have mixed feelings about the whole thing. well, those of you who know of his desire to race cars, also know about one of his favorite people in the whole world-byron-our dear friend who works for joe gibbs racing. last weekend, while hanging out at the track with byron and his wife leslie, this is what larkin got to experience...

the jury is still out on which part was most exciting-the fact that he got to meet the king of racing, or that he met the voice behind the king from the movie, cars. either way, he was ecstatic. i cannot put into words what watching him during this was like. just to see the excitement in his eyes was enough to make a mama cry a little. and by the way, richard petty...super nice man.

happy birthday my boy

my favorite quote from the birthday weekend came after we purchased his balloon for the party. i tied it around his wrist until we could get to the car. he exclaimed, "mom, it is tied around my wrist!" and then, while looking into the distance contemplatively, "like the summer wind." nice, very nice.
